The First Step of Faith
Tuesday
"Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus." - Matthew 14:29
The space between the boat and the water represented everything impossible for Peter. One side meant safety, familiarity, and human logic. The other side meant risk, the unknown, and divine possibility. When Peter swung his legs over the edge of that boat, he wasn't just changing his physical position—he was making a profound statement of faith.
That first step is often the hardest. It's where we face our deepest fears and most persistent doubts. It's where we decide if we truly believe Jesus' words are trustworthy enough to stand on.
Peter discovered something remarkable in that moment: he wasn't actually walking on water—he was walking on the word of Jesus. "Come," Jesus had said, and that single word became firm enough to support Peter's weight.
Every miracle in our lives begins with a first step. Sometimes it's a step of desperation when we've exhausted all other options. Other times it's a step of obedience when God's calling is clear. But always, it's a step that requires us to trust that Jesus' word is more reliable than what our eyes can see or our minds can comprehend.
"Every miracle that takes place in your life requires you to step out on a word of faith."
Reflect: What "first step" of faith is God asking you to take right now, and what word from Him can you stand on as you take it?
Prayer: Father, give me the courage to take that first step when You call. Help me to trust Your word more than my fears. Thank You that I don't walk on my own ability but on Your promises. When You say "Come," let my response always be immediate obedience. Amen.
