When Others Get Your Miracle

"And a woman was there who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years. She had suffered a great deal under the care of many doctors and had spent all she had, yet instead of getting better she grew worse. When she heard about Jesus, she came up behind him in the crowd and touched his cloak." - Mark 5:25-27
One of the most challenging tests of faith comes when we see others receive the very thing we've been praying for. In Jairus's story, while he was desperately waiting for Jesus to heal his daughter, another person—the woman with the issue of blood—received her miracle first.
This scenario plays out in our lives too. We pray for healing, and someone else gets well. We interview for a job, and another candidate is selected. We long for restoration in a relationship while watching others experience reconciliation.
These moments can stir complicated emotions—a mixture of happiness for others and honest disappointment for ourselves. Yet they also present a critical choice: Will we allow envy to poison our faith, or will we see others' breakthroughs as evidence that God is still in the miracle business?
When someone else gets 'your' miracle, it doesn't mean God has forgotten you. Instead, it can serve as confirmation that your miracle is possible too. Their testimony becomes a preview of what God can do in your situation. Their breakthrough can actually strengthen your faith if you choose to see it as evidence of God's faithfulness rather than as a reminder of your wait.
"Have you ever prayed for something and somebody else get the healing that you were praying for? At first there's a little excitement, isn't it? A little encouragement, like, oh, my God, he's moving. Oh, oh, I'm going get it now."
Reflect: How do you typically respond when you see others receive blessings you've been praying for? How might viewing their breakthroughs as evidence of God's faithfulness change your perspective?
Prayer: Father, forgive me for the times I've allowed envy to creep in when others receive their miracles. Help me to genuinely celebrate with those who celebrate, knowing that Your goodness toward them doesn't diminish Your plans for me. Let others' testimonies strengthen my faith rather than weaken it. In Jesus' name, amen.
