What Does God's Vision Look Like?
When God first spoke to Abraham in Genesis 12, He gave him an incredible vision. At 75 years old, with a 65-year-old wife and no children, Abraham received a promise that seemed impossible: "I will make you into a great nation. I will bless you and make you famous, and you will be a blessing to others."
Later, in Genesis 13, God expanded this vision even further, telling Abraham to look in every direction - north, south, east, and west - promising to give him all the land he could see. But there was a catch: Abraham had to walk through it to claim it.
Why Is Vision So Important?
Vision is everything because it provides direction and purpose. Without vision, we lack both. As Proverbs tells us, "Where there is no vision, the people perish." This principle applies not just to churches or organizations, but to individual lives as well.
Here's the key truth: If you can't see it, you can't obtain it. You're never going to accidentally fall into something great. You have to pursue it with intention and purpose.
What Must We Leave Behind to Receive God's Vision?
Before God could fully reveal His plan to Abraham, He required him to leave everything familiar behind - his country, his relatives, and his father's house. This wasn't arbitrary; God couldn't give Abraham vision while he remained surrounded by the same influences and limitations.
Sometimes God can't give us vision if we stay in the same place we're at. He may be trying to show us something, but it's hard to see when we're surrounded by everything He's trying to get us out of.
What Changes Are Required?
To receive God's vision, we often need to change:
- Our surroundings
- Our comfort zones
- Our friends and influences
- Our habits and routines
- Our willingness to settle
Some people remain stuck without vision because they're unwilling to change anything in their lives. God can't show you something new if you're not willing to leave something old behind.
How Do We Turn Vision Into Reality?
Abraham initially only partially obeyed God's command. He left his homeland but brought his nephew Lot along as a safety net. It wasn't until Lot departed that God spoke to Abraham again, telling him to look in every direction and claim the land.
But seeing wasn't enough. God commanded Abraham to "walk through the land in every direction, for I am giving it to you." The vision required action.
Why Action Is Essential
A vision without action is just a daydream. Many people see what God wants to do in their lives and believe in it, but they never put feet to their faith. They never take the necessary steps to make it happen.
God equips those He calls, but sometimes the equipping involves our willingness to work and learn. He equips those who are willing to be equipped - those who will take classes, develop skills, and put in the effort required.
What Does It Mean to Embrace People?
For the church, embracing people means serving people. We can't separate the two. To embrace is to serve God and His children, caring for them as we would care for Him directly.
This challenges the typical American church mindset of "What can the church do for me?" Instead, we should ask, "What can I do to serve?" Every person who walks through church doors is a child of God who needs to feel His embrace through His people.
How Does Serving Lead to Miracles?
The most powerful example of this principle comes from Genesis 18, when Abraham was 99 years old. Three visitors appeared at his tent, and Abraham immediately ran to serve them. He provided water for their feet, prepared food, and personally waited on them throughout their visit.
It was during this act of service - this moment of over-the-top hospitality - that the visitors announced Sarah would have a son within the year. After 25 years of waiting for God's promise, the breakthrough came through serving.
The Bridge to the Miraculous
Serving and hospitality become the bridge to the miraculous in our lives. The miraculous doesn't come through waiting or wishing - it comes through serving. When we show over-the-top hospitality to God's people, especially those who are hurting and broken, we create space for God to work miraculously.
What Results Can We Expect?
When we commit to serving God and His people with everything within us, we can expect to see supernatural results. Just as Abraham's serving led to the fulfillment of God's promise, our serving creates the conditions for God to bring the harvest we've been praying for.
The principle is simple: God brings the harvest if we bring the hustle. He will build His church, but we must be willing to serve and work alongside Him.

This week, identify one area where God has given you vision but you haven't taken action. Whether it's a personal dream, a calling, or a way to serve others, commit to taking concrete steps toward that vision. Remember, you'll never obtain what you can't see, and you'll never see results without putting feet to your faith.
Look for opportunities to serve others with over-the-top hospitality. Whether it's at church, in your community, or in your daily interactions, choose to serve rather than be served. This shift in mindset creates the bridge to miraculous breakthrough in your life.
