The Moment of Worship
Thursday
'And going into the house, they saw the child with Mary his mother, and they fell down and worshiped him. Then, opening their treasures, they offered him gifts, gold and frankincense and myrrh.' - Matthew 2:11
After their long journey filled with faith, questions, and imperfect guidance, the wise men finally arrived at their destination. When they found Jesus, they didn't just observe from a distance or offer polite acknowledgment. They fell down and worshiped Him, presenting gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. This moment of worship was the culmination of their entire journey.
Their response teaches us something crucial about our own spiritual seeking. It's possible to search for God, to have faith, and even to find Him, yet never truly encounter Him in a life-changing way. The difference lies in worship - the moment when we stop being spiritual tourists and become devoted followers.
Worship involves surrender, sacrifice, and recognition of who Jesus truly is. The wise men brought their most valuable possessions and laid them at Jesus' feet. They didn't hold back or offer Him their leftovers; they gave their best. This act of worship demonstrated that they understood they were in the presence of royalty - the King of Kings.
Many people today begin a journey of faith but never reach this moment of true worship. They might attend church, read about God, or even pray occasionally, but they never fully surrender their lives to Him. They remain spiritual seekers rather than devoted worshipers.
The wise men came prepared to worship because they understood the magnitude of who they were seeking. When we truly grasp who Jesus is and what He has done for us, worship becomes our natural response. It's not just something we do; it becomes who we are.
Your journey of faith will always lead you to a place of worship, to a moment of worship.
Reflect: What would it look like for you to move from simply seeking God to truly worshiping Him with your whole life, and what 'treasures' is He asking you to offer Him?
Prayer: Jesus, I don't want to just seek You from a distance. I want to worship You with my whole heart and life. Help me surrender my treasures, my plans, and my will to You. Show me what true worship looks like in my daily life. Amen.
