Mustard Seed Faith
Friday
'Then the disciples came to Jesus in private and asked, "Why couldn't we drive it out?" He replied, "Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you."' - Matthew 17:19-21
Jesus compared mountain-moving faith to a mustard seed—not because it's small, but because of its remarkable ability to produce results regardless of circumstances. A mustard seed will grow in any climate, survive freezing temperatures, and still produce when conditions improve. Its environment doesn't determine its productivity.
This is the kind of faith that fasting develops in us—faith that produces breakthrough regardless of our circumstances. When you fast and pray, you're not just asking God to change your situation; you're allowing Him to change you. You're developing faith that doesn't depend on perfect conditions or favorable circumstances.
Many of us want mountain-moving faith, but we're not willing to pay the price to develop it. We want breakthrough without discipline, victory without sacrifice, and power without preparation. But Jesus made it clear: this kind of faith—the kind that moves mountains and casts out demons—comes through prayer and fasting.
The question isn't whether God is able to move your mountain. The question is: how badly do you want it moved? How desperately do you want the breakthrough? Are you willing to feed your spirit and starve your flesh? Are you ready to prioritize your soul over your stomach?
When you combine fasting with prayer, when you choose spiritual hunger over physical satisfaction, God responds with supernatural power. Mountains move. Breakthroughs happen. Lives are transformed. The key is developing faith that produces results no matter what environment you're in.
If you would fast, if you would pray, if you would feed your soul and starve your flesh, if you would feed your spirit and starve your flesh, God will do great things. Breakthroughs will happen. Mountains will move.
Reflect: What would change in your life if you developed faith that produces breakthrough regardless of your circumstances, and what are you willing to sacrifice to develop that kind of faith?
Prayer: Father, I want mustard seed faith—faith that moves mountains regardless of my environment. Help me embrace fasting as a pathway to developing unshakeable faith. Show me what mountains You want to move through my life as I learn to feed my spirit and starve my flesh. Amen.
