Seen in Your Struggle
Monday
"When Jesus saw him lying there and learned that he had been in this condition for a long time, he asked him, 'Do you want to get well?'" - John 5:6
Have you ever felt invisible in your pain? Like no one truly sees or understands what you're going through? In John 5, we meet a man who had been sick for 38 years. Imagine that—nearly four decades of suffering, waiting by a pool rumored to have healing powers, yet never experiencing relief.
What strikes me most about this story is that before anything else happened, Jesus saw him. In a crowded place full of suffering people, Jesus noticed this particular man and knew exactly how long he had been struggling. This wasn't a casual glance; it was divine recognition of his pain.
Sometimes in our darkest moments, we feel completely alone. We wonder if anyone—even God—sees our struggle. The beautiful truth is that God always sees you. He knows exactly how long you've been dealing with your pain. He understands the weight of your burden better than anyone else could.
Today, whatever struggle you're facing, whatever pain you're enduring, know that you are seen. The God of the universe notices you specifically, not as one face in a crowd, but as His beloved child. Your suffering hasn't escaped His attention, and He hasn't forgotten you. Just as Jesus approached the man at Bethesda with compassion and purpose, He approaches you today with the same heart.
"I want you to realize that God sees you. He sees you and it might feel like you're all alone. It might feel like nobody cares. It might feel like even God doesn't care about you. He still sees you in that place, ready to give mercy to you in that moment."
Reflect: In what area of your life do you feel unseen or forgotten? How might recognizing that God sees you in this struggle change your perspective today?
Prayer: Lord, thank you for seeing me even when I feel invisible. Help me to find comfort in knowing that you are aware of every detail of my struggle. Open my eyes to recognize your presence with me in my pain. Give me the courage to believe that you haven't forgotten me, and that you have a purpose even in this difficult season. Amen.
