It's Not About the Amount

'In those days when again a large crowd had gathered, and they had nothing to eat, Jesus called his disciples to him and said to them, "I have compassion on the crowd, because they have been with me now three days and have nothing to eat. And if I send them away hungry to their homes, they will faint on the way. And some of them have come from far away." And his disciples answered him, "How can one feed these people with bread here in this desolate place?" And he asked them, "How many loaves do you have?" They said, "Seven." And he directed the crowd to sit down on the ground. And he took the seven loaves, and having given thanks, he broke them and gave them to his disciples to set before the people; and they set them before the crowd. And they had a few small fish. And having blessed them, he said that these also should be set before them. And they ate and were satisfied. And they took up the broken pieces left over, seven baskets full. And there were about four thousand people. And he sent them away.' - Mark 8:1-9
When the disciples looked at seven loaves and a crowd of 4,000 hungry people, they saw an impossible situation. The math didn't add up. Sound familiar? We often find ourselves staring at our limited resources - whether it's time, money, talents, or energy - and feeling overwhelmed by the enormity of what lies before us.
But here's what the disciples missed and what we often forget: God isn't doing math the way we do. He's not calculating whether our resources are sufficient. He's looking at our hearts, waiting to see if we'll trust Him with what we have. Your small offering isn't too little for God - it's exactly what He wants to work with.
The miracle wasn't in the seven loaves; it was in whose hands they were placed. When we shift our focus from the size of our resources to the size of our God, everything changes. That project at work, that relationship that needs healing, that dream that seems too big - God isn't concerned about how much you have in your hand. He's concerned about whether you'll trust Him enough to place it in His.
Jesus is not Concerned about how much you have in your hand. He is concerned that if you will be obedient and trust him and put it in his hand and say, God, it's just enough.
Reflect: What 'small' resource in your life are you hesitating to surrender to God because it doesn't seem like enough?
Prayer: Lord, help me stop focusing on what I lack and start trusting in who You are. Give me the courage to place my small offerings in Your capable hands.
